A School Opens
The new school took inspiration from curricula drawn from the École des Beaux Arts in Paris, such as that in practice at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, founded in 1805, and the Art Institute of Chicago, founded in 1866. Encouraged by the Academic approach of the day, students worked directly from the figure.
April 15, 1886
Members of the Minneapolis Society of Fine Arts establish the Minneapolis School of Fine Arts.
