MCAD's president Jay Coogan was quoted yesterday in an article in the Wall Street Journal. The New York newspaper published a story about artist Do-Ho Suh, a long-time friend and past student of Coogan's.
Within the article, Suh cites Coogan as an influence, stating he was "responsible for [Suh] becoming a sculptor," and Coogan reminisces about his positive early reactions to the work produced by his former student. One sculpture in particular, titled Metal Jacket, especially stood out.
"His work was so fantastic. [Metal Jacket] was ambitious in scale and in the kind of global ideas he was working with. Do-Ho is exploring issues of what divides us and what unites us as human beings."
