Jean Pitman Tells a Neighborhood's Story Through Comics

Weinland Park Story Book

Jean Pitman ’86, the youth programs educator at the Wexner Center for the Arts, was recently given the task of working on a public art project with teenagers in Weinland Park.

After encountering a teenager from the Linden neighborhood who was telling stories about his life through comics, Pitman decided that a graphic anthology would be a perfect way to "embrace the many voices, viewpoints, and visions" of a neighborhood that has changed so much over the last century.

Pitman, along with a team of six interns, conducted face-to-face interviews with community members and accumulated more than 100 stories, which were then interpreted by a variety of artists, ranging from teenagers to a professional Marvel Comics artist.
