Murphy Pizza Releases Paganistan the Book
Faculty member Murphy Pizza's book Paganistan: Contemporary Pagan Community in Minnesota's Twin Cities will be released by Ashgate Publishing on April 17, 2014.
Pizza's book is an ethnography and recent history of the Pagan, Wiccan, and occult community in Minneapolis and St. Paul, based on ten years of anthropological research.
Contemporary Paganism is a new religious movement that sprung from occult subculture in the United Kingdom in the 1950s, and imported and grew rapidly during the climate of spiritual exploration in the United States during the 1960s and 1970s. This is a regional study of a uniquely Midwestern Pagan community and traces the formation, traditions, connections, and future concerns of the passionate and creative people within it.
