Students Show Off Bronze Pouring Process [Video]

Bronze Pour Process

Have you ever thought about the work that goes into creating objects cast in metal?

Shot and edited by student Kay Mach, this video shows faculty member Brad Jirka's sculpture class going through the entire process of pouring molten bronze into molds.

For their final assignment, students made aluminum and brass objects using the "lost wax" method.

The process includes creating a sculpture made of wax, dipping it into slurry and sand to build a mold, melting the wax out, pouring the metal, letting it cool, breaking the mold, freeing the object, and finally adding refinements.
