Post-Secondary Enrollment Option (PSEO)

Enrollment must occur during your senior year, and you may attend fall or spring semesters. MCAD allows PSEO students to take one course per semester for two semesters for a total of six credits. These credits are transferable to the BFA or BSc degree programs.

Online PSEO Application Checklist

The online Post-Secondary Enrollment Option (PSEO) is an honors program for high school students residing in Minnesota who live more than 50 miles from MCAD’s campus.

Complete the online PSEO application form and return it to the Admissions Office by mail or as an email attachment.

Personal Statement of Interest

Please share any information you feel would be helpful for us in evaluating your interest in the visual arts. Explain why you want to take an art class online. Your statement may include personal thoughts on art, technology, and your career goals. Ask yourself: “why do I want to participate in the ONLINE PSEO program at MCAD, and how does being an ONLINE art student fit into my educational goals?”

Official High School Transcript

Your transcript must show that you will be a senior for the upcoming academic year and that you have a 2.5 cumulative GPA (C+ average).

Two Letters of Recommendation

Include one letter from your high school guidance counselor and one from a parent or guardian.

Complete the form with your guidance counselor and be sure that the form is signed by you, your parent or guardian, and your guidance counselor.

Portfolio of Artwork

Your portfolio is one of the most important requirements in the admissions decision. Because you will be working online, your portfolio should consist of 8 digital examples, in JPG format, of your best and most recent work. Your portfolio should include drawings done from observation (rather than drawings copied directly from photographs or other artists’ work.) You may submit digital images of painting, sculpture, design projects, photography, film, screenshots, etc. If you have interactive work on the internet, you may submit a paragraph explaining the project and your creative role, with a working URL. All other portfolio work must be submitted as JPG attachments to email. Submit to: admissions@mcad.edu Subject line: MCAD ONLINE PSEO PORTFOLIO

PCSS 2014 graduates who wish to apply for PCSS 2015 and who do not wish to apply for a scholarship need only supply an updated online application and official transcript to complete their application.

Official High School Transcript

Request an official transcript from the high school well in advance of the application deadline. Please note that transcripts stamped "Issued to Student" are not considered official transcripts, nor are copies or online transcripts for individual terms. Homeschool transcripts are welcome—please include classes, curricula, and grades.

Transcripts can be mailed directly to the address below, or they can be provided to the student directly and mailed with the remainder of the application materials.

Letter of Recommendation

One letter of recommendation is required from an art instructor, guidance counselor, advisor, or employer in support of your application.

Send a request to your letter writer via SlideRoom for submission directly to MCAD Continuing Education or have the letter sent to the address below.

Statement of Purpose

A one-page personal statement should address the student’s artistic influences, future goals, and aspirations, and relate how the Pre-College Summer Session would help to realize these goals.

Submit via SlideRoom or to the address below.

Portfolio

Students must submit a portfolio of ten digital images of their work. It is recommended that students select artwork that demonstrates their technical as well as conceptual skills, ideally focusing on work examples that demonstrate their competency in the summer session major they have chosen (i.e. Graphic Design majors will be best served by submitting as many design pieces as they have).

Students who do not have a significant body of work similar to the major that they have chosen for the summer session are encouraged to submit other 2D work examples, such as drawings or paintings.

The best images are those that are properly lit and cropped to the to the size of the image itself. For families who do not have a camera or scanner, check with the local high school or art teacher to see if assistance can be provided.

2014 PCSS graduates who are reapplying for 2015 and who are NOT requesting scholarship consideration are not required to submit a new portfolio.

Please note that these portfolio requirements will differ from any future requirements for application to an undergraduate program at MCAD or elsewhere.

Submit your portfolio online via SlideRoom.
