Pre-College Admissions Requirements

To begin the Pre-College Summer Sessions application process, first complete an online application form for each session you wish to apply. The application requires a valid credit number for the application fee of $25. NOTE: The application fee is waived if your application is received before March 1, 2012. Once you have completed the online application and it has been processed by MCAD Continuing Studies, you will receive an email confirmation.

If you prefer to submit a paper version of this online application, please download a copy and submit it with the remainder of your application materials.

Statement of Purpose

A one-page, personal statement of purpose is required. Students are encouraged to address their artistic influences, future goals and aspirations, and relate how the experience in the Pre-College Summer Sessions would help realize these goals.

Current High School Transcript

Submit official high school transcripts. Transcripts can be sent directly to MCAD Continuing Studies or in a sealed envelope included with your application materials. Please note that transcripts stamped "Issued to Student" are not considered official transcripts. Home-school transcripts are welcome. Please include classes, curriculum, and grades.

Letter of Recommendation

One letter of recommendation is required. You may ask an art instructor, guidance counselor, advisor, or employer to write a letter in support of your application. The letter may be sent directly to MCAD Continuing Studies or be included with your application.

For Scholarship Applications Only

Portfolio of Artwork

Include ten (10) pieces of your work. Please send digital images of your artwork on a CD or DVD. Do not ship actual artwork. Choose artwork that shows your technical skills as well as your idea development. Any media is acceptable: traditional (painting, drawing, etc.), digital, photo, sequential, or 3D. All the pieces in your portfolio should be finished work that shows completed ideas.

List of Portfolio Works

Provide a list of your portfolio pieces including title, date, and medium.

Previous Year's Income Tax Return

A copy of your previous year's income tax is required as the scholarships available for Pre-College Summer Sessions are largely need-based scholarships based. Please feel at liberty to include an additional personal statement that describes any extenuating circumstance that affects your family’s finances and which is not evidenced on your income taxes.

Dates and Deadlines

The 2012 Pre-College Summer Sessions are as follows:

  • Session 1
    Contemporary Image and Media Sun., June 17, 2012-Sun., July 1, 2012
  • Session 2
    Singular and Sequential Images Sun., July 15, 2012-Sun., July 29, 2012

 

Completed applications, including the additional materials listed above, must be received by Continuing Studies before Wed., April 18, 2012. This is not a postmark deadline.

Cancellation & Refund Policy The application fee is separate from tuition and is non-refundable. Tuition is due in full on the date specified in the acceptance letter.

  • If the student withdraws prior to the first day of the session, MCAD will retain $275 of the $2,275 tuition, and refund the balance of $2,000.
  • If the student withdraws prior to the first day of the session, and sends MCAD a letter from their doctor advising that the withdrawal is due to a medical condition, MCAD will refund the full tuition of $2,275.
  • If the student withdraws on the first day, or after the first day of the Session, MCAD will retain all of the $2,275 tuition.
  • If the student withdraws during the first week of the session, and sends MCAD a letter from their doctor advising that the withdrawal is due to a medical condition, we will refund roughly 50% of the tuition, that is $1,125.
  • If the student withdraws during the second week of the session, none of the tuition is refunded, even if the withdrawal is due to a medical condition with a doctor's letter.
