How To Apply

The application deadline for the 2013 Pre-College Summer Session has passed. If you remain interested in applying and attending as a non-scholarship student, you are encouraged to contact lspaulding@mcad.edu for application extension options. The total tuition for the program is $3,200.

Statement of Purpose

A one-page, personal statement of purpose is required. Students are encouraged to address their artistic influences, future goals and aspirations, and relate how the experience in the Pre-College Summer Session would help realize these goals.

Current High School Transcript

Submit official high school transcripts. Please request that transcripts be sent directly to MCAD Continuing Education in a sealed envelope included with your application materials. Please note that transcripts stamped "Issued to Student" are not considered official transcripts. Home-school transcripts are welcome. Please include classes, curriculum, and grades.

Letter of Recommendation

One letter of recommendation is required. You may ask an art instructor, guidance counselor, advisor, or employer to write a letter in support of your application. The letter may be sent directly to MCAD Continuing Education or be included with your application.

Portfolio of Artwork

Include ten (10) pieces of your work. Please send digital images of your artwork on a CD or DVD. Do not ship actual artwork. Choose artwork that shows your technical skills as well as your idea development. Any media is acceptable: traditional (painting, drawing, etc.), digital, photo, sequential, or 3D. All the pieces in your portfolio should be finished work that shows completed ideas.

List of Portfolio Works

Provide a list of your portfolio pieces including title, date, and medium.

Previous Year's Income Tax Return

A copy of your previous year's income tax is required as the scholarships available for Pre-College Summer Session are largely need-based scholarships. Please feel at liberty to include an additional personal statement that describes any extenuating circumstance that affects your family’s finances and which is not evidenced by your income taxes.

Dates and Deadlines

The 2013 Pre-College Summer Session will take place July 7-28. Students will arrive on campus Sunday, July 7, and depart Sunday, July 28. Due to the intensive nature of the coursework, late arrivals are not permitted.

Completed scholarship applications due: Wednesday, April 17, 2013*

Completed non-scholarship applications due: Wednesday, May 1, 2013*

This deadline is when all application materials listed above must be received by MCAD; it is not a postmark deadline. Incomplete applications will not be considered. The $3,200 tuition is due upon acceptance to reserve a space in the program. If you have missed the May 1 deadline, contact lspaulding@mcad.edu for options.

*Student applications which do not request scholarship consideration will be reviewed on a rolling basis after completed application is received. Please allow for at least three weeks to receive the decision via postal mail.

*Student applications which request scholarship consideration will be reviewed after April 17, 2013. No special consideration is given to those who apply early.
