Mat Ollig’s fruitful freelance career has led him to create the entire art collection for the Ogletree Deakins Minneapolis office, four original paintings for the Hyatt Regency in addition to hundreds of prints for their guestrooms, original artwork for the Millennium Hotel’s clubroom, and a year-long display of several paintings in the Minnesota State Capitol in the Senate wing.
After graduating from MCAD, Ollig first took a job designing and screen printing tee-shirts. But after having a typical 9 to 5 job for only three months, opportunity knocked when an office administrator for a downtown law firm needing art saw his work on the MCAD website and contacted him. Ollig proceeded to create the firm's entire art collection. Ever since, he has been painting commissions for homes, hotels, and corporate collections.
"MCAD taught me how to work hard, self-critique, and talk about my work; plus, it made me a better painter. Showing my work at the annual MCAD art sale was invaluable when it came to networking, ‘field-testing’ new ideas, and funding my fledgling career as I honed my studio practice and marketing skills. I would not have been able to jump into my fine art career without it."
