Nadia Alenov is a full time photographer and encaustic artist living and working in St. Paul. Her photography explores the beauty of nature and the seasons in Minnesota. She applies hot beeswax over photographic images as a way to define and enhance an atmosphere within the images. Every photograph she chooses to paint is a memory, an experience, an emotion—encaustics seals in the nostalgia.
Coming from a family of artists (both parents graduated from MCAD in 1972), attending MCAD was a natural choice for her.
"Initially I chose MCAD to be an illustrator, but it was the MCAD art sale that helped me realize there was a market for my encaustic photography. MCAD gave me the confidence and resources to build relationships with collectors and gallery owners, while also providing me with a platform for launching my career."
