Why did you choose MCAD?
I always knew I wanted to go into advertising and MCAD had been on my radar for a few years. After digging a little deeper into other programs I discovered that I wouldn't get the same kind of hands-on experience and education at other larger schools that I would at MCAD.
What experience at MCAD helped you find the career or place you are in today?
The faculty at MCAD were very instrumental in helping me get to where I am today. While at MCAD I was fortunate to have been taught by some of the ad industry greats—Nancy Rice, Tom McElligot, etc.—and learned a lot from them. They (and other faculty) did a good job of bringing in industry speakers, as well as getting the students out into the field at local agencies to see what makes the industry tick. It was here that I learned the importance of networking and was pushed to get involved in different organizations. This exposure helped me determine what I was looking for in a job and how to go about finding one.
Is there a message, story, or idea that you would like to share with prospective MCAD students?
Honestly, this will sound cliche, but I really do think that your education is almost entirely what you make of it. MCAD provides a lot of really great resources: variety of classes, faculty, and facilities. Utilize them. Take that printmaking class that sounds interesting. Pick your professor's brain. Use the photo studio. Consult the career center. Explore what it is that you really enjoy doing, don't just try to coast and get through it. Everyone at MCAD wants you to succeed and find the perfect job, but it won't always come easy. Be proactive and arm yourself with the skills and knowledge it'll take to succeed.
