When was the last time you were able to focus on typography in its essence? In the world of the working graphic designer, the pure joys of working with typography can become buried under brand standards, clients’ tastes, unnecessary information, and heady concepts. Created especially for professional designers or those with a solid design background looking to take their work to the next level, this class is an immersive and fast-paced workshop exploring typography at its roots as both image and text.

What if your students were to go on a drawing adventure, documenting the journey with GoogleMaps? What if they could create an online, interactive portfolio using Flickr that they could share, not only with their classmates, but also with the rest of the world? What if you could facilitate meaningful critique of your students' work using VoiceThreads? We will combine traditional studio activities with easy to use Web tools on an expedition that encourages ideation, interaction and collaboration in the making and teaching of art and design.

The photographic medium is seemingly redefined every year. Digital photography has become an inescapable reality in terms of artistic practice and personal documentation. Though the endless streams of technical jargon can be intimidating, the medium remains, at its core, the manipulation of light. This class will focus on the mechanical operations of a Digital SLR (Single Lens Reflex) camera, and with those skills, learn how to best formulate projects and assignments for high school students.

Stories shape our culture and define who we are and motion pictures (film and video) are more prevalent today than ever before. Digital video can be an effective medium for collecting, delivering, and sharing stories. This class will provide a hands-on experience of digital storytelling with video production that will include pre-production, interviewing techniques, voice-over narration, lighting, sound and editing resulting in a personal short video story.
