Called “the City of the Big Shoulders” by poet Carl Sandburg, Chicago has repeatedly reinvented itself, giving rise to iconic architectural forms such as the skyscraper, and residential styles ranging from the opulent mansions of the Gilded Age to the “Prairie School” homes of Frank Lloyd Wright and his followers. This class will explore Chicago’s architectural and artistic history through presentations featuring projected visuals and video clips.
