This class will introduce the novice printmaker to the fundamentals of printmaking and allow the more experienced printmaker to explore the abstract monotype print further.

Screenprinting is a direct printmaking technique that builds images from layers of color and can be used to create everything from custom silkscreened T-shirts to one-of-a-kind posters and fine art prints. In this class, students will explore photographic, computer-generated, hand-drawn, and painted stencil techniques in order to complete a portfolio of editioned and non-editioned prints.

While it may sound like a complicated process left to big factory operations, papermaking is something at which even those without studio experience can excel. This workshop is a start-to-finish primer on the beautiful art of Japanese papermaking known as Wa-Shi, and will cover fiber preparation (cooking, cleaning, and handbeating); sheet formation; pressing; drying; and even surface decoration.
