Beginning Observational Drawing (Spring 2016)

Drawing is a skill that anyone can learn! Developing the ability to draw from observation trains the eye and hand and opens a world of creative possibilities. This class is designed to offer a comprehensive introduction to the techniques, tools, and vocabulary associated with drawing as a medium. Students will learn the basic elements of drawing, such as line, value, texture, and shape, while also being conscious of the overall composition of the piece. Perspective and a multitude of visual measuring techniques will be explored as strategies for seeing and drawing. Students will also learn to use and manipulate a variety of drawing media. / Open to students ages 18 and above.

What to bring: Pen or pencil; notebook or sketchbook; 18 x 24 drawing paper pad; 18 x 24" newsprint pad; vine charcoal; white eraser; 2B pencil; 4B pencil. A complete list of suggested materials will be discussed during the first class meeting.

What to Wear: Please wear clothes appropriate for a messy studio practice. An apron or smock is suggested but by no means required.

If the minimum enrollment is not met by the deadline above, the class will be canceled on this date. Registration will remain open after this date if the minimum enrollment has been met.

Class Savings
