Paintable You AM
Art and Design Classes for Kids and Teens
Use yourself as inspiration for a week of creative discovery! Students will select a famous portrait painting and become that image by drawing, painting, and photo-collaging themselves into a compelling likeness of the master painting.
Students will learn how to merge observational and imaginary drawings of themselves into colorful and robust larger-than-life pop-out self-portraits. Their personal paintings will straddle the world between two and three dimensions.
For ideas, we’ll access MCAD’s extensive art library to look at portraits by artists Frida Kahlo, Chuck Close, Alice Neel, Vermeer, Van Gogh, and others. Young artists will also draw, paint, and collage on paper surfaces as they explore their favorite places, things, and ideas.
Focus will be on drawing, observation, experimentation, personal expression, brushstrokes, rhythm, color relationships, composition, and paint handling. On Friday, we’ll celebrate the students and their artwork with a group exhibition! en awed and inspired by this same phenomenon!
Students must be at least five years of age, and have attended kindergarten, prior to the first day of their class. View complete policies here.
