Portfolio Plus: Expanding the Creative Portfolio
Art and Design Classes for Kids and Teens
The life of an artist is one of ongoing idea and skill development—full of practice, play, and continued refinement. The goal of this class is to expand critique skills, flesh out ideas, make additions and edits to one’s portfolio, and gain valuable knowledge about the work of contemporary artists.
Critiques and lectures will help high school students think about where ideas can come from for their artwork and how to successfully verbalize them to others. Daily exercises will challenge them to approach conceptual development in new ways and to generate creative content with the goal of taking their portfolios beyond technically skilled, observational drawing to one that is a truly exemplary creative portfolio.
Prerequisites: High school level art; previous drawing experience. This class will serve as a suitable follow up to the standard Portfolio Preparation class. Students who have not taken Portfolio Preparation, but who have a portfolio of work already begun, are eligible to register for this class. Students just beginning their portfolio should register for Portfolio Preparation before proceeding with this class.
What to Bring: An in-progress portfolio of artwork; sketchbook; drawing pencils; pink pearl eraser; small notepad. / A complete list of suggested materials will be emailed prior to the first class meeting. / Students should anticipate an additional cost of roughly $75 for materials (not included in tuition).
Students must be fifteen years, and not older than eighteen years of age, on the first day of class. View complete policies here.
