Pre-College Portfolio Preparation Ages 15-18

Developed to provide students looking to apply to art school with an opportunity to expand their application portfolio, Portfolio Preparation classes are offered during the summer and, occasionally, fall semesters.

This intensive drawing workshop is designed to help motivated high school students, adults, and transfer visual arts students develop exemplary drawings for their portfolios. Students will work with still life and figurative subject matter as they explore the fundamentals of a good drawing: Composition, structure, value, line, and expression. In addition, students will gain knowledge of a larger "art vocabulary" for critique and discussion.

The portfolio is the single most important component of an art school application, and colleges across the nation are stepping up their requirements for admission. Most require several observational drawings, or drawings made from what we see, rather than from our imagination or a photograph. This studio drawing class is designed to help motivated visual arts students develop exemplary observational drawings for their portfolios.
