Illustration and Comic Art

Capture a child's imagination with original artwork while learning the tricks of the illustration trade. During this class, students will explore a wide range of children's book illustration, from traditional to contemporary. Students will learn what makes a children's book unique; how to communicate through illustration; and how to conceptualize and storyboard ideas. The instructor will also demonstrate a variety of materials that can be used to illustrate a book. Students will be encouraged to experiment with different media and begin to create their own children's books, from the sketch phase to final illustrations. The instructor will also provide information on how to enter this competitive field and navigate the business practices of working as a children's book illustrator. / There will be no class on July 4. / Materials fee of $5 in addition to class tuition. / Open to students ages 18 and above.

Prerequisites: Previous drawing experience helpful, but not required.

What to Bring: Pen or pencil; notebook or sketchbook. A complete list of suggested materials will be discussed during the first class meeting.

Register Before: June 1

If the minimum enrollment is not met by the deadline above, the class will be canceled on this date. Registration will remain open after this date if the minimum enrollment has been met.

Class Savings
