This course is an exploration and foundational course in the concepts, capabilities of form, and the construction of visual narratives – also known more commonly as comics or "graphic novels." Students will explore their ideas for using images and text in narratives, mastering new materials, and learning production standards and basic structures and styles of comics. The goal is to establish a rudimentary but holistic knowledge of cartooning, digital editing, and publishing, as well as identify student's personal goals for expressing themselves through comics. Students will complete a short project to add to their portfolio, as well as some in-class collaborative work and drawing exercises. / Materials fee of $5 in addition to class tuition. / Open to students ages 18 and above.

What to Bring: Pen or pencil; notebook or sketchbook. A complete list of suggested materials will be discussed during the first class meeting.

Prerequisites: Previous drawing experience strongly recommended. Experience with Photoshop is recommended, but not required.

If the minimum enrollment is not met by the deadline above, the class will be canceled on this date. Registration will remain open after this date if the minimum enrollment has been met.
