Illustration and Comic Art
Brand New Classes

Comic book intellectual property (IP) is a creation of the mind, but if you want to be a working artist, then creation is only the beginning. This is a comics course, but this is not about making comics. This class is about what to do with your comic. Students will identify their section of the market and collect data on potential publishers to develop a pitch package. This class will also cover the DIY route of comic production including researching information on printing resources and funding. We will explore different areas of marketing and write our own press releases and students will have presentations from a publisher, a literary agent, and comics journalist/marketing expert. At the end of the class students will have put together an executable business plan. Students skill level should be at the point where they have completed, or are in the process of completing a comics project (a previous comics course is recommended but not required). This class will be lecture, discussion, research, and personal assignments. / Open to students ages 18 and above.
