Photography and Filmmaking

This course is an introduction to photo editing using Adobe Bridge, Lightroom, and Photoshop. Historical and contemporary art themes such as surrealism and appropriation will fuel our foray into the technical aspects of The Digital Darkroom. Students will learn how to utilize Bridge and Lightroom to properly download, archive and organize their RAW images, and will learn how to make global corrections using these programs. Students will then learn how to utilize the myriad tools of Photoshop in order to accomplish their creative goals. Layers, selections, masking, and compositing will all be covered during interactive demonstrations by both the teacher and students. Occasional readings and regular critiques will help students cultivate their technical skills in a way that supports their artistic/studio practice. / There will be no class on July 4. / Open to students ages 18 and above.
