Beginning Observational Drawing (Fall 2014)
This class is designed to offer a comprehensive introduction to the tools, techniques, vocabulary, and the creative possibilities of drawing. Students in this class will learn the basic elements of drawing, such as line, value, texture, and shape to capture and record the multi-dimensional world and create visually stimulating compositions.
Emphasis will be placed on observational drawing of still life situations enhanced by a variety of experimental drawing techniques. Perspective and a multitude of visual measuring techniques will be explored as strategies for seeing and drawing. Students will also learn to use and manipulate a variety of drawing media.
Classroom projects will be enhanced by slide lectures covering historical and contemporary artworks as well as engaging critical discourse. / Previous drawing experience helpful, but not required. / Open to students ages 18 and above.
What to Bring: Pen or pencil; notebook or sketchbook. / A complete list of suggested materials will be discussed during the first class meeting.
