Beginning Painting (Spring 2014)
This introductory class is tailored to those who have never painted and who are ready to take the plunge, and for more advanced painters who want to keep their current skills honed.
Working in our spacious, professional painting studio, students will use oil (strongly recommended) or acrylic paint to learn basic techniques of this expansive medium. The fundamental elements of color, design, form, and content will be explored through studio work and slide lectures. / Open to students ages 16 and above.
Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of drawing is recommended.
What to Bring: Two sheets of 22 x 30" Arches cover white paper; one 32 oz. container of acrylic gesso; gesso brush; roll of artist's tape; quart-sized can of Gamsol odorless mineral spirits; 12 x 16" pad of disposable palette paper; cloth rags; one 37ml oil paint tube each of titanium white, phthalo green, alizarin crimson, and yellow ochre; sizes 4, 6, and 10 of both round and flat brushes, of hog or natural bristle, suitable for oil paint. / Students should anticipate additional costs for the purchasing of requisite painting supplies. A complete list of suggested materials will be discussed during the first class meeting.
What to Wear: Apron, smock, or clothes appropriate for messy creativity.
