Bronze Casting (Spring 2014)
This metal casting class is for students with a wide range of foundry experience, from beginning to advanced.
Studio time will be supplemented by hands-on demonstrations of mold making, which will include advanced techniques for large molds using a variety of materials and tools. The class will address other relevant processes, such as wax working, spruing and gating, as well as ceramic shell and jewelry investment processes.
From there, students will discuss additional topics, including chasing, casting repair, welding, and patination. Students will have an opportunity to participate in several metal pours throughout the duration of the class. Those who do not have experience will learn foundry operation. / Facilities fee of $50 in addition to class tuition. / Open to students ages 18 and above.
What to Bring: Notebook; pen or pencil. / Supplies, materials, and safety equipment will be discussed during the first class meeting. / Students should expect additional costs for personal safety equipment and materials for their own projects.
