Mining Your Creative DNA (Spring 2014)
When the work of a truly remarkable artist is recognized, their signature is apparent, even when not literally present in written form. What is recognized in such instances is the artist's creative DNA, a term coined by American dancer and choreographer, Twyla Tharp.
Some people are inspired by the malleability of charcoal on smooth paper, others continually gravitate towards the color red. One might be intrigued by the motion of a bird in flight, or marvel at the way light shifts and changes its character throughout the day.
Through discussions, readings (including Tharp's, The Creative Habit), and writing exercises - in conjunction with studio practice and critiques—this class will help students find their muses, name their intentions, and strengthen their unique, creative signatures. In our quest for individual expression, we will cast a wide net in our studio practice by engaging in drawing, painting, sculpting, and printmaking, in addition to the readings and responsive writing and journal exercises. This class is intended for the intermediate to advanced artist who is looking to enrich and focus the studio practice. / Open to students ages 18 and above.
This class has been canceled due to low enrollment. We encourage students to register as soon as possible for future classes.
