Children's Book Illustration (Fall 2014)
Illustration and Comic Art
Capture a child's imagination with original artwork while learning the tricks of the illustration trade. During this class, students will explore the wide range of children's book illustration, from traditional to contemporary.
Students will learn what makes a children's book unique, how to communicate through illustration, and how to conceptualize and storyboard ideas. The instructor will demonstrate a variety of materials that can be used to illustrate a book. Students will be encouraged to experiment with different media and begin to create their own children's books, from the sketch phase to final illustrations.
The instructor will also provide information on how to enter this competitive field and navigate the business practices of working as a children's book illustrator. / Previous drawing experience helpful, but not required. / Materials fee of $5 in addition to class tuition. / Open to students ages 16 and above.
What to Bring: Pen or pencil; notebook or sketchbook. / A complete list of suggested materials will be discussed during the first class meeting.
