The storyboard is the first tool used in applying images to a script. During this class, students will learn about the basic mechanics of film and the translation of a script into a storyboard for animation or live-action film.
Students will also learn to recognize specific types of shots and editing techniques, understand camera motion and angles, and choose the best of these tools to illustrate a script. The class will be taught through lecture, discussions, handouts, in-class exercises, and the viewing of screened clips from films.
Each student will completely storyboard at least one scene from an unfilmed script. Students may collaborate on the same story (recommended) or work independently.
The class has no prerequisites, though basic drawing ability and an appreciation of film and/or animation are helpful. A student may enter this class with no knowledge or experience and still create worthwhile storyboards. / Previous drawing experience helpful, but not required. A basic drawing ability and an appreciation of film and/or animation are helpful. / Open to students ages 16 and above.
What to Bring: Pen or pencil; notebook or sketchbook; basic drawing supplies (dry media: pencils; erasers; pens; fine line markers). / A complete list of suggested materials will be discussed during the first class meeting.

If the minimum enrollment is not met by the deadline above, the class will be canceled on this date. Registration will remain open after this date if the minimum enrollment has been met.
