Graphic design is everywhere. From t-shirts to posters and logos to websites, graphic design is used to visually communicate an idea, a message, or a statement. Students in this class will explore graphic design theory and learn to put into practice the concepts and principles of design.

Hands-on, in-class exercises, and real world, structured assignments will immerse students in the elements of graphic design, including typography, layout, color, and graphic form. Through detailed projects and exposure to current examples and contemporary practices, students will become aware of the creative process of graphic design. Students will develop concepts from an initial idea rendered in a sketchbook to final compositions using the Adobe Creative Cloud. / Open to students ages 18 and above.

Prerequisite: Working knowledge of Mac OS X. Experience with Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop helpful, but not required.

What to bring: Pen or pencil; notebook or sketchbook; USB drive, blank CD, or cloud storage option for saving work. A complete list of suggested materials will be discussed during the first class meeting.
