Documentary Photography (Spring 2014)
Photography and Filmmaking
Documentary photography can tell a story, bring light to a social issue, or create a compelling snapshot of the human condition. Students in this class will join a new breed of documentary photographers who use their curiosity, passion, vigor, and integrity to create photographs that are captivating and insightful.
The class will begin with idea generation; each student will then select a theme for a photographic portfolio that captures an interest or passion. The instructor will lead students in lessons focused on form and style, researching a theme, preparing the subject, shooting, and editing. Each week students will bring finished work to class for critique and review, helping them to refine their ideas and body of work. During the last meeting, students will present their projects to the class.
Class time will include instruction; discussion; shooting field trips; gallery visits; and one-on-one conferences with the instructor.
This class has been canceled due to low enrollment. We encourage students to register as soon as possible for future classes.
