Ages 12-15: Teen Painting (Fall 2014)

School Year Classes Ages 12-18

In this class, students will be introduced to a basic approach to painting that will enable them to further their ability to see and to develop their own creative process.

Students will learn fundamental methods of utilizing drawing to develop finished paintings, exploring the essential elements of line, shape, light, and color. In addition to studio work, students will be introduced to various painting styles and histories with a visit to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and artist research. The class is divided between a little drawing; a lot of painting; a trip to the museum; and discussions of artists' work. / Previous drawing experience helpful, but not required. / Open to students ages 12-15.

What to Bring: Pen or pencil; notebook or sketchbook. / A complete list of suggested materials will be discussed during the first class meeting.

What to Wear: Clothes appropriate for messy creativity.
