Women's Weekend in Grand Marais: Art As Journey (Spring 2013)
Special Classes
May 9-12, 2013
Thursday-Sunday, variable schedule
Now in its twelfth year, the Women's Art Institute-inspired weekend retreat to Grand Marais welcomes you to gather with a group of equally passionate artists on the beautiful shore of Lake Superior to continue discovering your art in the splendid studios of the Grand Marais Art Colony.
Morning meetings starting at 9:00 a.m. will bring students together to share ideas, and experiment with the written word and conversation, as they lead to vision and art practice. Students continue their work during the afternoons, with evening presentations and discussion. Each student will develop and create a body of work inspired and shaped by their individual concerns and interests. They will be amazed by what they can accomplish.
Tutorials will be ongoing throughout the weekend and a final critique will be held on Sunday. Welcomed media includes painting, sculpture, photography, drawing, sewing, clay, collage, and more.
The retreat will end around 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 12, but may run longer, depending on the lengths of the final critiques.
Open to students ages 18 and above. / Students are responsible for their transportation, lodging, and meals in Grand Marais.
Prerequisite: 2 years of art training or the equivalent. This is a class for those who have mastered the basic techniques of their medium, and wish to further hone the ideas in their work, or experiment with new ideas and techniques for feedback.
