Much Ado About Architecture: AM Section (Summer 2013)
Summer Studio Kids Ages 5-8
Create castles that are so much more than amazing than Windsor Castle, palaces that vie with Versailles, towers that rival Eiffel, and buildings to compete with Frank Lloyd Wright.
Students will take on the roles of architects this week and will create blueprints, schematics, and models for breathtaking buildings. We'll exercise our imaginations and learn basic architectural elements like foundation, columns, domes, arches, and more, while creating drawings and paintings and 3D models made of wood, wire, and assorted decorative media, with a focus on texture, balance, detail, and form. The week will include a visit to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts to look at architectural models and drawings. Families will be invited to join the young architects as they present their works at an art show on the last day of class.
For students to get the most from these classes, it's important for them to have experience using scissors, possess tactile skills, and to also have experience in a group setting. Students in this program must be at least five years of age, and have attended kindergarten, prior to the first day of their session.
Morning before-care (8:00-9:00 a.m.) and afternoon after-care (3:00-5:30 p.m.) arranged through the Children's Theatre Company is available to students enrolled in a Studio Kids class.
