Imaginary Homes for Imaginary Critters: Sculpting, Painting, and Collage (Summer 2013)

Summer Studio Kids Ages 8-11

Let's spend a week letting our imaginations soar as we paint and collage cool portraits of engaging animals that we invent. Will yours be a brilliantly-colored new species of bird, a slimy serpent, or mythological creation?

We'll look at paintings of animals (real and imagined) from several points in history, and research some fascinating contemporary paintings of surreal critters. Then, we'll design and construct imaginary homes and structures specific to them and their needs. Before taking on the role of chief architect and builder, however, we'll "tour" examples of inventive housing and then build our own using wood and wood scraps, sturdy cardboard, wood turnings, paint, and collage. Think "Seuss-like" birdhouses go bananas!

Welcome your family and friends into your mythical home during our Friday exhibition!

Students in this camp must be at least 8 years of age, and no older than 11 years of age, the date of the first class meeting. View our complete policies here.
