Color Cavalcade! AM
Summer Studio Kids Camps Ages 5-8
Step right up for a carnival of captivating color! This class offers young artists a broad spectrum of creative possibilities while teaching them the science of color mixing and composition.
We'll look at color-field paintings of Josef Albers, Helen Frankenthaler, along with Mark Rothko, and expressionistic paintings of Wassily Kandinsky and Pablo Picasso. Students will explore concepts such as primary and secondary colors, complementary colors, warm and cool colors, expressive colors, and tints and shades, while they draw and paint a variety of frame-worthy masterpieces.
For inspiration, the class will take a mini-field trip to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts to see art works featuring colors and concepts that they've learned about. The week will culminate in a vibrant Friday afternoon display of our paintings for families to admire and to celebrate these young artists.
Students must be at least five years of age, and have attended kindergarten, prior to the first day of their class. View complete policies here.
