Augmented Reality: See the World in a Whole New Way
Summer Studio Kids Camps Ages 8-11
Let’s look at the world from a different viewpoint—bigger or smaller than usual; stretched out or squished; upside down, from an angle, or even backwards! During this offbeat class, we’ll learn new drawing, painting, and sculpting techniques before the real fun begins when we experiment with those techniques to depict people, objects, and animals—but with a zany and creative twist!
Our own paintings and sculptures may have dynamic faces, kooky animals, crazy landscapes, and bizarre buildings that challenge the way we expect to see things. We’ll work with oil and chalk pastels, acrylic paints, and other playful media.
To get a sense of how others augmented the reality of their work, we’ll take a mini-field trip to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts to examine artworks by surrealist painter Salvador Dali, portraitist Amedeo Modigliani, and artist Claus Oldenburg who sculpted the Spoonbridge and Cherry.
The week will culminate in a fun exhibition and celebration for families to admire and to celebrate the variety of ways we can depict the world around us.
Students must be eight years, and not older than eleven years of age, on the first day of class. View complete policies here.
