Drawing Extravaganza! Learn to Draw or Expand Your Drawing Skills!

Summer Studio Kids Camps Ages 8-11

Do you love to draw? Would you like to improve your skills and feel more confident in drawing? In this exciting class, we’ll dive deep into the world of drawing, exploring both Old Master drawings from the likes of Rembrandt, to the nineteenth-century master Georges Seurat, to contemporary artists, such as Heesop Yoon, and complemented by a visit to the nearby Minneapolis Institute of Arts.

We’ll also have fun with artists like “Blu”, a pseudonym for an Italian street artist who makes complex drawn works all over the world, or South African artist William Kentridge, who uses drawing to make surprising and powerful animations.

We’ll make projects of all shapes and sizes, employing line, value, shape, and proportion—the building blocks of drawing. We’ll also learn and practice different approaches to drawing such as contour and gesture. And, of course, we'll get to use heaping doses of imagination, materials, and color!

Friday afternoon, we’ll share this drawing extravaganza with family and friends in a celebratory exhibition.

Students must be eight years, and not older than eleven years of age, on the first day of class. View complete policies here.

Morning before-care (8:00-9:00 a.m.) and afternoon after-care (3:00-5:30 p.m.) arranged through the Children’s Theatre Company (CTC) are available to students enrolled in an MCAD class.
