Pop-out Pet Portraits: Must Love Dogs...and Cats!
Summer Studio Kids Camps Ages 8-11
This week will focus on making cool 3D pop-out portraits of pets. But, you don’t have to have a dog, a cat, or a pet of any kind to enjoy this fun class about portraits—all animal lovers are welcome!
We’ll start by learning important “tricks of the trade” for drawing and painting, especially for portraiture of people, animals, and faces. For inspiration, we’ll look at the powerful portraits of painters like Alice Neel, Lucian Freud, Frida Kahlo, and Red Grooms. Some of these artists even painted pet owners with their animal friends!
We’ll also explore color mixing, as well as how to use different color combinations (analogous, complementary, and warm and cool) for great effect. If time allows, we may even use face paints to transform our human faces into those of our favorite pets!
During the final Friday afternoon, we’ll have a fun exhibition and celebration for family and friends.
Students must be eight years, and not older than eleven years of age, on the first day of class. View complete policies here.
