Sculptural Books All About...ME!
Summer Studio Kids Camps Ages 8-11
During this exciting week, you’ll create books that transform! Books that do magic! Books that hang from the ceiling! Books don’t all need to look the same or be on a bookshelf.
In this class, we’ll explore ourselves and our identities through different sculptural book-making techniques, like pop-up books, accordion style books, and creatively folded books. By mixing personal stories and traits with unusual bookmaking techniques, you’ll leave this class with an interactive work of art that is all about your life, interests, and passions!
We’ll also also learn and have fun experimenting with different art techniques like marbling paper, printmaking, and observational drawing. We’ll even explore artists, such as Julie Shaw Lutts, Catherine Nash, and Brian Dettmer, who have done amazingly creative things with books. For inspiration, the class will take a mini-field trip to see artwork featuring art with books and similar painting techniques at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. The week will culminate in a fun book-art exhibition for families.
Students must be eight years, and not older than eleven years of age, on the first day of class. View complete policies here.
