Zip, Zap, Zoom!

Summer Studio Kids Camps Ages 8-11

Watch out for that flying art! In this class, we’ll explore art that moves, drawing inspiration from artists such as Alexander Calder, Ernst Barlach, and Ned Kahn.

We’ll use the natural powers of wind and gravity along with everyday items like rubber bands and more, to make art that can zoom across the room, fly in the air, or spin around and around! Once we get our artworks moving, we’ll use a variety of materials and techniques to adorn and decorate our pieces, resulting in some wild and wonderful creations.

Throughout the week, we’ll explore concepts of physics, like momentum, rotation, and acceleration, and how they relate to principles of art such as movement, rhythm, and time. For inspiration, the class will take a mini-field trip to see kinetic artworks, or art that features movement, at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts.

The week will culminate in a moving experience for families to admire and to celebrate everyone’s work during our final Thursday exhibition.

Students must be eight years, and not older than eleven years of age, on the first day of class. View complete policies here.

Please note there is no before or after care offered this week.
