Book Arts Boot Camp
Summer Young Teens Classes Ages 11-14
Wouldn't it be fun to know how to make your own paper? Have you ever thought about hand binding your own journal or sketchbook? This multi-faceted class will jumpstart the printer, papermaker, and bookbinder within you! Students will make piles of handmade paper to dye, bind into books, and use for printmaking. By the end, each student will have made a half dozen or more book structures (traditional and sculptural).
The class will also experiment with several simple printmaking techniques (relief printing, stencil printing, and more) designed to quickly get text and images onto the pages. Students will leave class with a stack of handmade papers, several hard and soft covered books, and a portfolio of prints to keep or to share with friends. / No previous experience required. / Facilities fee of $35 and materials fee of $70 in addition to class tuition.
What to Bring: Pen or pencil; notebook or sketchbook; ruler; pencil; scissors or x-acto knife; and Xerox images or text you may want to incorporate into your books or embed in your handmade paper; packed lunch. / Most materials will be provided by the materials and facilities fees in addition to class tuition.
What to Wear: Clothes that can get wet and are appropriate for messy creativity. Wear shoes that can get wet. Plastic aprons will be provided.
/ Register for more than one class at a time and receive $25 off each additional class (same-day, same-family registrations only).
