PRIMARY FUNCTION:   

Provides operational management, development, maintenance, security, and documentation for the college’s Linux systems, databases, and virtualization infrastructure.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary Linux Administrator:

  1. Client and server hardware and operating systems administration
  2. MCAD directory administration (ex.OpenLDAP)
  3. User management
  4. Security
  5. File server administration
  6. Print queue administration (ex. CUPS, PaperCut)
  7. Programming (ex. Perl, PHP, Bourne Shell)
  8. Web application integration/support
  9. Other ITS supported Linux systems
  10. Promote, use, and contribute to open source software

Primary Database Administrator, including but not limited to:

  1. Data Transformation Services
    1. Support custom import/export processes
    2. Work with external APIs and data files
  2. Database reporting support (ex. SQL, InfoMaker)
  3. Facilitate interdepartmental communication regarding database systems
  4. Microsoft SQL and MySQL server administration

Primary Virtualization Administrator:

  1. Manage Citrix XenServer infrastructure

Primary Storage Administrator:

  1. NetApp administration
  2. Administer file server protocols and security

Secondary Windows & Network Administrator:

  1. Provide backup assistance, as necessary

Common Responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  1. On-call (primary and secondary) for responding to and resolving systems issues occurring outside of business hours
  2. Project management
  3. Help Desk support and departmental technical service requests
  4. Basic hardware maintenance and network cable pulls, which requires some lifting
  5. Department cross-training and coordination
  6. Oversee and advise MCAD community regarding technology data structures, policies, standards, procedures, methodology, etc.
  7. Purchasing research, vendor selection, and vendor maintenance
  8. Technical guidance and assistance
  9. Other projects and duties as assigned by supervisor 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: BS in MIS, or equivalent technical experience.

Experience: Minimum three years work experience in administration of information systems, databases, and client workstations, preferably in an educational environment. Documented experience with appropriate protocols (ex. SSH, HTTP, LDAP, SFTP, AFP), database administration (ex. Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, SQLite), directory servers (ex. OpenLDAP, Active Directory), virtualization (ex. Citrix Xenserver), storage and file server administration (ex. iSCSI, NFS, POSIX, ACLs), primary server operating system (ex. Linux), web server administration (ex. Apache, SSL/TLS, PHP), server/workstation operating systems (ex. macOS, Windows), and interpreted programming languages (ex. Bourne Shell, Perl, PHP).

Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical individuals. Facility in identifying, prioritizing and solving problems within a deadline. Ability to work effectively in a team. Detail-oriented and self-starter. Active sense of humor preferred.

Additional Requirements: On-call for responding to and resolving issues occurring outside of business hours.
