Free, Fun for All Ages
Takes Place Rain or Shine (in case of rain, event will be held inside)

You're invited to an afternoon of celebration at MCAD!

Having completed the NEXT/NOW capital campaign and raising nearly $24M for scholarships, facilities, and academic program support, MCAD is welcoming everyone in the Twin Cities community and beyond to campus for a party. To show thanks in true MCAD fashion, we will delight you with an array of unique art-inspired experiences:

Picture yourself in a photo booth

  • Lady Jacques’ Portraiture Studio
By Curly Jefferson Productions (Kayla Campbell ’16, MFA; and Katie Lupton ’16, MFA)
Paint the prettiest picture, color outside the lines, and cut shapes to your heart's content in a delightfully orange-sicle covered scene.

Create an art book and go on a scavenger hunt

  • What I Learned at MCAD
    By Carolyn Swiszcz ’94
Use rubber stamps and texture rubbings to embellish funny and poignant drawings about lessons Carolyn learned at MCAD as you create a zine. Then, go on a scavenger hunt around MCAD.

Throw darts, win prizes

  • You Only Get One Shot
    By Preston Drum ’16
This interactive installation and performance engages participants through game play. The setting is a carnival game, where an actor encourages participants to throw larger than life darts at balloons fashioned to a wall. When popped, the balloons reveal a fortune, task or activity that the participant is expected to take part in. In some cases, participants will be eligible to win prizes designed and created by Preston Drum Studios.

Avoid dropping the ball

  • Tilt Pinball Bar
Three pinball machine games from MCAD's neighbor will be on site for you to relive the ’80s—free to play!

Get your groove on

  • Salsa Dancing Mini-Lessons
By Costa Rica Ballroom (Rebecca Dahlquist-Eckhoff ’04 and Eliecer Ramirez-Vargas)
Enjoy four sessions of twenty-minute salsa dancing lessons. Sessions held at 4:30, 5:00, 5:30, and 6:00 p.m.

Draw on the sidewalk

  • One Line with The Drawing Project
By MCAD Professor Lynda Monick-Isenberg; Emily Hoisington ’08, MFA; Iris Monahan; and Molly Poole
Observe MCAD's campus and Whittier Neighborhood as you collaborate on a continuing line chalk drawing of the shapes and textures of the people and objects around you.

Snack and sip on tasty treats

  • Izzy Ice Cream, STōK Coffee, Chef Shack
Receive free Izzy pops and iced coffee samples, and purchase food on-site from the Chef Shack Food Truck.

View limited-time alumni art installations

  • MCAD Mural
Two-story commemorative mural on the south side of MCAD’s main building by Patrick Miller ’02 and Patrick McNeil of FAILE. This is the first time this internationally recognized mural team has presented their work in Minnesota. Mural funding was provided in part by Karin Phillips ’95.
  • Do You See Color Now?
Deconstructed fabric installation by Janie Arguedas ’17
  • Spectrum_001
Neon graphic system installation by Jonathan Rodriguez ’13
  • MCAD Until Now
String data visualization installation by Arlene Birt ’02 (Background Stories)
