Feed your Future: Alumni Mentor Lunch Series 2/10
This event is a tremendous opportunity for students to come together in a small group setting and ask questions of an alum about his or her journey into the world after leaving MCAD. The focus of the series is to learn from each other and to be a part of a bigger conversation about art and design.
The series takes place from 12:10–12:50 p.m. in Room 414 on the following dates:
- February 3
- February 10
- February 17
- February 24
Lunch will be provided.
Space is limited, so register in advance with Brian Gioielli, director of alumni relations, by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
February 10 Alumni Mentor: Boriana Strzok
Originally from Sofia, Bulgaria, Boriana Strzok came to Minneapolis almost twenty years ago. Before moving, she spent her childhood as a singer, performing at the National Opera House and traveling the world. She was determined to become a psychologist, but after meeting her future husband she left college and followed her heart to Minneapolis.
After a number of various part-time jobs, Strzok decided to follow her dream of becoming an art director. She gained degrees from both the Minneapolis Community Technical College and MCAD and quickly discovered that her passion for design and business were difficult to fit into the standard job description for an art director, which led her to start her own business. Seven years later, after building her client list and gaining valuable experience, she formed a team of fellow MCAD alumni (a couple of which will be joining her for this lunch series!) and established 5IVE, a small advertising and branding agency that combines strategy, creative thinking, research, and design in a way that enables clients to enjoy healthy brand development. Her passion to support various causes from equality to sustainable energy has allowed her to develop a diverse client list that includes both commercial and non-profit clients (e.g. the Saint Paul Public Library, Minneapolis Foundation, Medtronic, 11 Wells Distillery, New French Bakery, Great Plains Institute, Northwestern Health & Sciences University and more), and she counts every workday as highly rewarding.
Outside of 5IVE, Strzok serves as the president of MCAD’s Alumni Board of Directors, which allows her to work with other alumni on creating new and powerful experiences for those who are interested in continuing their relationship with MCAD post-graduation.
Strzok is also passionate about building a strong mentorship program that supports current students and allows alumni to network and remain engaged. In the past four years, she has also taught classes in the advertising program and led student teams to win awards at the One Show. She continues to mentor between two and five students every semester and is an avid believer that her time as a mentor is an investment and the best job she’s ever had. Strzok is a proud resident of the Northeast Art District where she lives with her husband and daughter. Her free time is spent enjoying and creating good food, hosting parties for her friends, and learning new things.
