Rio Saito was born and raised in Gunma, Japan. After graduating from high school, she relocated to the United States to study American subcultures through photography. She has worked at the Weinstein Gallery, taught at Concordia Language Villages, and worked as an editor for Mechademia, an academic publication focused on Japanese pop culture.
