Thomas O. Haakenson
Haakenson holds a doctoral degree in Comparative Studies in Discourse and Society, along with minors in German and in the History of Science and Technology, from the University of Minnesota (2006). He also holds a Master of Arts degree in Comparative Studies in Discourse and Society with a minor in German from the same institution (1999). He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations, Economics, and German from Drake University (1995).
Haakenson is co-editor of the series German Visual Culture, co-coordiantor of the Visual Culture Network of the German Studies Association, and Vice President of the Minnesota Fulbright Association. He has published widely, including in New German Critique, Cabinet, Rutgers Art Review, German Studies Review and the anthologies Legacies of Modernism and Memorialization in Germany Since 1945. He has received awards and fellowships from the U.S. Fulbright Program, the Social Science Research Council, the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science, the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst, and the Berlin Program for Advanced German and European Studies, among others.
