Filmmaking Merit Scholarship $2,000
Online Portfolio

Briefly describe the pieces you submitted for merits.

Shot on super 8, this film acts as a diary of the people and things I encounter on a daily basis. The people are shown doing the activities that they do regularly and identify with. All the steps in the making of this film were done by hand. I shot, developed, edited, and scored this film myself.
Love Me for My Mind is a short film that attempts to give the audience an inside view of the skateboarding culture and community of Minneapolis. The film blends different structures of filmmaking to create a unique and experimental story. Using techniques from narrative, documentary, experimental, and skate filmmaking, this film transcends the limits of each structure.

What does winning a Merit Scholarship mean for your education?

Winning a Merit Scholarship shows me that being at MCAD is not only improving the work I'm making but also allowing me to grow as an artist.

Why did you decide to come to MCAD?

I chose to come to MCAD to become an artist. You can work film based just on technical ability but what art school does is present film to you as an expressive tool. Being here allows me to take classes in other mediums in order to better inform my own work in film.
