For the fifth year MCAD participated in Recyclemania, a friendly competition and benchmarking tool for college and university recycling programs to promote waste-reduction activities to their campus communities. During the eight weeks of the competition, the MCAD community diverted an impressive amount of recycling and compost from landfills.

Within the Diversion category, MCAD ranked #6 out of 190 participating schools, with a total recycling rate of 75.5%. MCAD recycled over 49,000 pounds of material and outranked one of Minnesota’s top sustainability-ranked schools, Macalester College  (#8). In the Organics category, MCAD ranked #5 out of 134 schools, composting an average of 29 pounds per person.

Thank you and congratulations to everyone in our community who participated in Recyclemania. Let's keep up the good habits throughout the rest of the year!
