MCAD faculty member Holly Robbins, along with her co-organizer, Jenn O’Brien, was featured in an article in Communications Arts Magazine entitled “Resistance in Design,” along with other designers from around the country using their skills in service of their communities and society. Robbins and O'Brien were featured for organizing the “Signs of Resistance” poster show in April, where they invited over thirty artists to create posters around several central themes, including science/climate change, human rights, and political corruption. Studio 514 donated the space and Bent Paddle donated lots of beer. With 300 people in attendance, the show netted $8,000 for the ACLU of Minnesota.

Robbins and O’Brien chose the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) as the beneficiary of the Signs of Resistance Protest Sign Show, because it was important to them to select a nonpartisan organization dedicated to bettering the nation for everyone. “When I wandered into the room, I realized that for many of the guests, this was their first exposure to the ACLU,” says Carol Stoddart of the ACLU’s Minnesota chapter. “That was a success.”
