Sherry Blanchard Stuart '64 resides in Scottsdale, Arizona and is a professional painter specializing in images of the American West. She owns Open Range Gallery in Old Town Scottsdale. Last year, Tom Garrett’s Professional Practice class collaborated on a student project with Target. Illustrations by Teagan White '09 were chosen to illustrate surface of a reusable tote that was given out at all Target locations on Earth Day (April 22, 2012).

AIGA Minnesota honored Monica Little (MCAD alum and board vice-chair) as a 2012 Fellow Award winner at the 2012 AIGA Fellow Award Celebration on June 15. The AIGA Fellow program recognizes designers who have made a significant contribution to raising the standards of excellence in practice and conduct within their local or regional design community, as well as their local AIGA chapter.

Little's design company, Little & Company, encourages women and new college graduates to become design entrepreneurs.

A project by students from Elissa Cedarleaf Dahl's "Art in the Community" class was featured in the Downtown Journal this past May. Entitled "Organizations Partner for New Anti-Bullying Mural," the article discussed the MCAD students' collaboration with Youth Art + Media Works and Emerson Spanish Immersion School to create an anti-bullying mural on Nicollet Avenue. Two MFA Graphic Design students won awards at AIGA Minnesota's Competition this past May. Sherri Days '12 won for her images "Genetic Modification" and "Ingredients." Vadim Gershman '12 won for his project "Alternative Cloud Research." View all of the projects below.

Gregory Ganeles '10 received the 3rd place ranking in Juxtapoz Magazine's "Saber's Pick Art Contest." His paintings were also featured on the Saber blog.

MFA Graphic Design student Li Zeng '12 has accepted an Assistant Professor position at Mississippi University for Women.

Adjunct Faculty Emily Hoisington's collaborative project "The Work of Growing Food," made with origami designer Jane Rosemarin, was on display as part of "Shin Jidai: Contemporary Japanese Book and Paper Arts" at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts. The pieces consisted of vegetables folded by Rosemarin from Hoisington's woodblock prints of garden tools.

A performance piece by Professor Piotr Szyhalski from last year's Northern Spark festival, entitled "Empty Words: So That We Can Do Our Living," was featured in Quodlibetica in an article by Adjunct Faculty Diane Mullin. Mullin's essay, entitled "Emptying Words: Demilitarizing, Denoting, and Delight," provides a thoughtful critical context for a work that is deeply rooted in MCAD.
