Patrick Redmond ‘72 received a Merit Award from the Advertising Federation of Minnesota, a member of the American Advertising Federation, in AdFed’s The Show 2012 competition on November 9.

Tom Garrett created illustrations about the executive chef of the White House and the Obama family for the December 2012 issue of Food Network Magazine. Garret’s seven illustrations are based on the process of creating the holiday gingerbread house.

A new digital magazine called MPLSzine has been coordinated and produced by MPLS Collective. Several MCAD alumni and students have been involved in the production and have submitted content to the zine, including Julian Howley, faculty member Robert Algeo, and Clarissa Hamilton, who is the layout Director for the zine.

Matthew K. Berg was recently hired by MN Film and TV as their new Production Services Manager. Most recently, Berg worked as assistant to producer Christine Walker on the indie feature, Stay Then Go, which was shot on location in Minneapolis in September.

To celebrate and acknowledge their 30th anniversary, the Women’s Art Resources of Minnesota Mentor program held a special exhibition of works by Judith Roode, former MCAD faculty member. Gifted and Guided, the Warm Mentor Program Exhibition was on view from October 6 to November 10 at the Grain Belt Bottling House. Roode also spoke at the event.

Restaurateur and MCAD board member Andrew Dayton and head chef of the Bachelor Farmer, Paul Berglund, invited Karen Wirth, Vice President of Academic Affairs, to give a presentation on design and composition to the kitchen staff of the restaurant. The presentation on October 23, 2012 was included in the programming for a semiannual staff development day. The talk centered on attributes of Scandinavian design, compositional principles and their application to food presentation or plating.

Two photographs by Noel Worden ‘08 were accepted into SooVAC’s Untitled 9 show. This is the 5th SooVAC show this year, including a solo show, in which Worden’s work has been featured.
